ABOUT ME:
My name is Nina Obediah-Berlin and I am excited to be your child's first grade teacher! As I embark on my seventeenth year as an educator, this is my fifth year at Henking. I taught on the southwest side of Chicago for 12 years prior to coming to Glenview. I was trained in Fountas & Pinnell Literacy, which means that I worked with a literacy coach to develop my craft in the following areas: guided reading, writer's workshop, shared reading/writing, and interactive reading/writing. My classroom then became a "demonstration classroom" so that teachers who needed assistance in those areas of literacy could come to observe and learn from the lessons I taught. In my last year with Chicago Public Schools, my "demonstration classroom" status extended to the district, and teachers from other schools within CPS came to observe my literacy lessons. I believe education is an ever-evolving field, therefore I enjoy pushing myself to learn about new ideas and strategies, so that my students receive the best education they possibly can.
I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for undergraduate and graduate school, where I received my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, and masters degree in Educational Leadership. I grew up in the western suburbs, and attended Lyons Township High School in La Grange. My husband and I currently reside in Arlington Heights with our three young children & our cat.
